Naval Submarine Base New London is “Home of the Submarine Force” and the “Submarine Capital of the World”. Naval Submarine Base New London occupies over 600 acres and is home to fifteen attack submarines. The Naval Submarine Base New London is also home to the Naval Support Facility, three Submarine Squadron staffs, and the Housing and support facilities for over 20,000 active duty military and civilian employees. Although slated for closure in 2005, the Pentagon voted to keep NSB New London open. Naval Submarine Base New London is located in Ledyard, Connecticut. Housing at Naval Submarine Base New London is privatized with Balfour Beatty Communities as the managing partner. For military personnel seeking on-post housing, contact the housing office to apply for housing and be placed on the waiting list. Depending on the number of bedrooms desired, placements will be made for active duty military. No pit bull breeds will be approved for on-post housing. For off-post housing and homes for sale or rent, the housing office keeps a current list of available properties. Contact the Housing Welcome Center for what BAH rates may apply to rent and/or utilities.
Bachelor housing on post is available to all E-4 and below. There are over 500 rooms available on base that consists of two bedrooms, a kitchenette and a microwave and refrigerator. There are no single permanent party officers quarters available on base. Contact the base housing office at 877-843-5236. Students who are enlisted at the Naval Submarine Base New London are eligible for over 700 rooms that are set aside by the school for students E-6 and below. Student officer are billeted in Navy Gateway Inns and Suites. Temporary quarters can be arranged through the Navy Lodge or the Combine Bachelor Housing Office which arranges on-base quarters for single military personnel. The Groton Chalet is also available, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Call 860-445-6699 for reservations. The Navy Lodge is also open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be reached at 860-446-1160.
